A few weeks ago, Epic announced Rocket League Sideswipe, apparently ending several months of feverish speculation about a possible mobile port of Psynonix’s popular multiplayer soccer game.
Except no. Speculation is still ongoing, reignited by court documents filed by Epic in its legal case against Apple (for removing Fortnite from the App Store, remember?)
The document contains a page for Rocket League “2D”, a version of the “Touch Control Rebel” game. This appears to be the game that became Rocket League Sideswipe.
But there’s another slide, with details on a game with the Rocket League working title “Next”. It appears to be a next-gen reboot of the original game that will be available on all platforms, “including mobiles”.
Additionally, Rocket League “Next” is apparently coming to mobile first, with a set of alpha and beta testing, “well ahead of its release on other platforms.”
As to when, the slide (visible on will reset) is cut off at the line where the release date is revealed, but it looks a lot like “Est: Q2 2021 for Mobile Beta,” meaning any time in the next seven weeks or so.
