Square Enix is working on a Final Fantasy Battle Royale game for mobile

Square Enix has announced two new mobile games, both based on the timeless Final Fantasy VII.

One of them is a single-player, chapter-based game called Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. It follows the arc of Final Fantasy VII and its spinoffs, and it was written by Kazushige Nojima, who wrote Final Fantasy VII Remake.

The other is a more left-wing choice for the long-running RPG franchise: a battle royale game called Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier. This one sees you playing a soldier and attempting to kill all of your counterparts before any of them can kill you.

As you can see in the trailer below, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier is a sleek shooter with fast-paced gameplay and a mix of conventional ordinances and magical tricks.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, meanwhile (above), feels like a more conventional experience, with top-down visuals and familiar cartoon characters.

Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier is slated for release later this year, while Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis will be released next year.
