Square Enix has revealed new gameplay footage from its upcoming battle royale Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier in Action on Twitch. You can watch it here.
Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is emerging as a refined and slightly unusual battle royale shooter, not least because it will feature monsters from the Final Fantasy universe. These beasts will roam the maps, randomly attacking competitors.
Hand-to-hand combat will also be an unusually important part of the Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier experience, along with the more traditional ranged combat that characterizes most battle royale games. The advantage of melee attacks, of course, is that they are silent.
Materia will also feature in the game. First introduced in the series in Final Fantasy VII, Materia is what allows you to grow stronger and learn new abilities. In The First Soldier, he will do much the same, enhancing your magical abilities and making you stronger.
We don’t have a release date yet, but you can sign up for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier regional closed beta here. It will take place from June 1 to 7.
